“Fly the flag with this one” was the phrase WALSH used for the ENSIGN in its 1985 sports footwear collection, highlighting the striking Union Jack colourway of the shoe.
First introduced in 1981, the ENSIGN was originally designed for runners competing in the New York Marathon. At a time when the industry was increasingly focused on new technological materials, founder Norman Walsh chose to remain true to his “less is more” design philosophy, taking a purer approach to performance running footwear.
The classic lugged outsole, thick wedge-shaped midsole and lightweight upper come together to deliver outstanding comfort, stability and durability. With its simple yet highly effective design, the ENSIGN was not only a performance shoe of its time, but has also become one of the most iconic silhouettes in WALSH’s history.

Care Instructions
We recommend that you do not put your Walsh footwear in a washing machine or tumble dryer. Instead, we suggest removing any dirt as quick as possible with a brush or cloth.
